Jesus: The Place of Retreat

Matthew 11:28 “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” NKJV No matter who you are, every one experiences seasons of weariness, fatigue, and heaviness. If that wasn’t the case, the Lord Jesus would not have gone to such great lengths to prepare a

place within Himself for us to retreat to. I pity the person who feels as if they have to always hold things together. Sometimes the Lord will allow a crumbling in our lives that we may run to Him, the Chief Cornerstone, to find the grace and help that we need to rebuild. Don’t let anyone cast a shadow over you because you are going through your season of heaviness. We are not superman believers. We hurt, we cry, we feel pain, and we bleed just like anyone else. The Word declared that the consciousness of some will be seared with a hot iron and that some will lose their natural affections for one another. In other words, some folk just don’t care about what you are going through. This is not fruit of the Holy Spirit. When your brother or sister in Christ comes to you seeking a place of refuge from the storms and winds of this life, you have one of three options. You may either help them, hurt them, or make the matter worse. If you are not in position to help, don’t put yourself out there like you can. Be honest with that person if you are not the ‘chosen one’ to see them through and get out the way. Some of God’s people are in labor, are heavy laden and need a place of rest. If you have the Spirit of the Living God within you, your counsel, prayer, word of encouragement, prophetic word, hug, or smile should be a safe place for them to rest. Psalm 34:18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
